A major police operation is currently underway in downtown Cologne, Germany, following a suspected explosion early Monday morning. The incident occurred on Hohenzollernring ringlodi 646, located between Rudolfplatz and Ehrenstraße.

Authorities have blocked the area as a precaution, and local police are urging residents and commuters to avoid the vicinity. The Cologne police have issued warnings on X, advising the public to choose alternate routes and steer clear of the affected zone.

A CCTV video went viral on social media in which, a person is seen placing an explosive at the incident spot.

According to reports, a bomb was detonated at the entrance of a restaurant. The explosion occurred at 5:50 am (local time).

The area, as per DW news, is famous for nightlife and is full of bars, clubs and restaurants.

A police spokesperson said that a bystander had suffered a mild injury and was taken to the hospital after the explosion. He also said that there is no indication of terrorist motive behind the explosion.

Currently, there has been no official confirmation regarding casualties or the extent of the damage caused by the blast. Emergency services and investigative teams are on the scenelodi 646, working to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
