With Halloween just a month away, Peacock dropped a tricky little treat into viewer baskets Thursday: the first trailer for “Hysteria!,” a new, extremely pop-culture savvy horror thriller that arrives next month on Peacock.Set in the fictional town of Happy Hallow, Michigan and created by Matthew Scott Kane (a University of Michigan grad who grew up mostly in Ypsilanti)ph777 casino, the series is set during the so-called satanic panic of the late 1980s. The storyline involves the disappearance of a high school quarterback and the attempt of some outcast students in a heavy-metal band to exploit the situation by billing themselves as a satanic metal band.
It’s all just an attention-getting ploy until, as Peacock teases, “a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported ‘supernatural activity’ triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.”
The trailer offers glimpses of creepy moments like a demonic reflection in a mirror, a large cross falling down from a church wall and Julie Bowen’s character being dragged up basement stairs by an invisible force.
Besides Bowen of “Modern Family” fame, the show stars Anna Camp (“Pitch Perfect”), Chiara Aurelia (“Cruel Summer”), Emjay Anthony, Kezii Curtis and Nikki Hahn. Metro Detroit’s own hometown horror icon Bruce Campbell (“The Evil Dead,” “Army of Darkness”) is a recurring guest star.

All eight episodes of “Hysteria!” will premiere on Peacock on Oct. 18. The first episode will be simulcast on the USA Network and Syfy that same day. The USA Network will air new episodes each Friday.
